Use the Stopwatch or Timer
We designed our interface for instant usability. You can easily switch between the Stopwatch (count up) and Timer (count down) modes depending on your needs.
- Start/Stop: Begin or halt the timing with a single click.
- Resume: Continue exactly where you left off without losing progress.
- Reset: Clear the current time and start fresh instantly.
Online Stopwatch
Our stopwatch is built for more than just simple tracking. We offer advanced features to help you capture every detail of your timing sessions.
Laps & splits
Record specific intervals without stopping the main clock. We allow you to track lap times (time since the last lap) and split times (total elapsed time) simultaneously, making it perfect for sports or multi-stage tasks.
Fullscreen mode
Eliminate distractions by switching to fullscreen mode. This feature scales the timer to fit your entire screen, making it ideal for classrooms, conferences, or exam halls where visibility is key.
Export & save timings
Don't lose your data. We enable you to export your list of laps and splits to a text file or CSV, so you can analyze your performance later.
Countdown Timer
Manage your remaining time effectively with our customizable countdown timer.
Alarm sound & silent mode
Never miss a deadline. We provide a selection of alarm sounds that trigger when the timer hits zero. If you prefer a quiet environment, you can easily toggle silent mode to rely on visual cues instead.
Multiple timers
Need to track dinner in the oven and a laundry cycle at the same time? We allow you to run multiple timers concurrently, giving you complete control over complex schedules.
Keyboard shortcuts
Efficiency is at the core of our design. You don't need to reach for the mouse to control your time.
- Spacebar: Start or Stop the timer/stopwatch.
- Esc: Reset the timer (when paused).
Accuracy & reliability
We prioritize precision. Unlike standard tools that rely on the system clock (which can fluctuate), we utilize the performance.now() API. This gives us a high-resolution, monotonic timestamp that is independent of system clock adjustments, ensuring your time tracking is accurate to the microsecond. However, please note that modern browsers often throttle inactive tabs to save battery. This means if you switch to a different tab, the *visual* display might update less frequently (often clamped to once per minute by browsers like Chrome). Rest assured, because we use a monotonic clock, the calculated time remains accurate and will instantly correct itself the moment you return to our tab.
Common use cases
- Cooking: Set precise timers for boiling eggs, baking, or steeping tea.
- Workouts: Time your intervals, planks, or rest periods during HIIT sessions.
- Exams & Study: Use the countdown feature to simulate exam conditions or manage study blocks (Pomodoro).
- Meetings: Keep discussions on track with a visible fullscreen timer.
Troubleshooting
Why didn't my alarm sound?
Browsers have strict Autoplay Policies to prevent unsolicited noise. This means the browser requires a "user gesture" (like a click or tap) on the page before it allows us to play audio. Ensure you have interacted with the page at least once to enable the alarm sound.
Why did the timer stop visually when I changed tabs?
As mentioned in our Accuracy section, browsers perform background tab throttling to reduce CPU usage. While the numbers on the screen may stop spinning to save energy, our internal timer continues to run accurately. The display will jump to the correct time as soon as you view the tab again.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use the stopwatch offline?
Yes! Once the page is loaded, our tool runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. You do not need an active internet connection to keep the timer running.
Is the time accurate for long durations?
Absolutely. Because we use performance.now(), our tool is not subject to "clock drift" caused by the operating system updating its time. It remains accurate over hours and days.
Will the alarm ring if my computer goes to sleep?
Likely not. Most operating systems suspend browser activity when the computer enters sleep mode. We recommend adjusting your power settings to keep the computer awake if you are setting a long timer.
